# Understand domain verification and SSL statuses

> Interpret each domain provisioning state shown in Biqli.

* **Pending DNS** means Biqli cannot yet find the required DNS configuration.
* **Pending SSL** means DNS is ready and secure certificate setup is waiting to begin.
* **Provisioning SSL** means the HTTPS certificate is being issued or installed.
* **Active** means the domain is ready for public Biqli URLs.
* **SSL failed** means secure certificate setup could not finish.

Keep the required DNS records unchanged during verification. If a status does not progress, follow the domain troubleshooting checks before reconnecting it.

## Expected progression

New domains normally begin at **Pending DNS**. After the required records are
visible, the state moves through **Pending SSL** and **Provisioning SSL** before
becoming **Active**. Status changes depend on public DNS and certificate provider
processing, so they are not always immediate.

## What to do in each state

* At **Pending DNS**, compare the authoritative record with the Biqli values.
* At **Pending SSL**, leave DNS unchanged and allow certificate setup to begin.
* At **Provisioning SSL**, do not proxy or redirect the hostname elsewhere.
* At **Active**, test HTTPS and a real link before publishing.
* At **SSL failed**, verify DNS and proxy settings, then follow the recovery
  action or contact support.

Creating the same domain again does not make propagation faster and can make
troubleshooting harder.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I publish while SSL is provisioning?

Wait for **Active**. Visitors should not be sent to a hostname before HTTPS is
ready and tested.

### Why did an active domain return to an error state?

DNS, proxy, certificate, or routing changes can break a previously working
hostname. Compare current public records with the Biqli instructions.
