# Create your first short link

> Create and configure a short link in Biqli.

Open **Links** in your workspace and select **Create link**.

## Create the link

1. Enter the destination URL.
2. Add a name that helps you identify the link in the dashboard.
3. Choose the default `biq.li` domain or a connected custom domain.
4. Enter an alias, or let Biqli generate the short path.
5. Configure any optional settings your campaign needs.
6. Select **Create**.

Optional settings include folders, tags, tracking pixels, UTM parameters,
password protection, schedules, click expiration, audience targeting, conversion
tracking, social previews, and search engine indexing.

</Frame>

After creation, copy the short URL or open the link action menu to create its QR
code. Test the short URL before adding it to a live campaign.

<Warning>
  Biqli rejects unsafe destinations and URLs that would create an unsupported
  redirect back into Biqli.
</Warning>

## Choose only the settings the campaign needs

Start with a valid public destination. The name is for workspace organization
and does not change the public URL. The domain and alias form the URL visitors
will see. Leaving the alias empty lets Biqli generate an available path.

Folders and tags organize the link. Tracking pixels send supported visit data
to third-party providers. UTM and custom query parameters are appended to the
destination. Restrictions control availability, while audience rules can send
matching visitors to alternate destinations.

Conversion tracking is disabled unless you enable it for the link. Custom
preview fields control the title, description, and image presented to crawlers
that read the short URL.

## Verify the new link

1. Copy the exact short URL from the response or dashboard.
2. Open it in a private browser window.
3. Confirm the final destination and query parameters.
4. Test the password, schedule, expiration, and targeting rules you configured.
5. Check that the click appears in analytics after processing.

If a custom alias is unavailable, choose another alias or domain. If the
destination is rejected, check its URL, redirect chain, and safety status rather
than attempting to hide it behind another shortener.
